Precendent studies of some of the most well known libraries around the world provided insight into the design of this space. Again taking influence from the city of La Crosse, we were tasked with designing a library that also served as a community center for the neighborhood. A strong correlation to the surrounding schools made itself apparent after studying the area, thus this design emphasizes the idea of a “kindergarten” in the purest forms. The library functions bi-laterally. A more formal space toward the Northeast corner of the site gives way to a more free flowing and inviting space meant to encourage local children to explore in the purest meaning of the word.
