Tasked with researching the North Corktown neighborhood, and ultimately designing a housing infill project, offered a significant challenge in understanding existing context and the people in the neighborhood. Reaching south the Historical Corktown neighborhood was enlightening and provided guidance through the design. Trying to relate to the neighborhood context while providing something that was clearly “new” posed it’s own challenges. The end result utilized a combination of modern materials with a simplified color palette to achieve a relatable, but clearly different development in an area with limited context.
